Pakistan pace icon Wasim Akram has told T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi not to believe that he is an all-rounder.

Afridi has been working on his batting and is capable of scoring quick runs lower down the order, but he is still mostly known for being one of the best new ball bowlers in the world.

Given that he doesn’t contribute with useful scores consistently, Wasim noted that the 23-year-old still has a long way to go before he can classify himself as a proper all-rounder.

“Shaheen needs to be told that he hasn’t become an all-rounder yet,” the Sultan of Swing was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Afridi recently captained the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and took 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 22.14 and an economy rate of 8.61.

He also made 107 runs, which included a top score of 55, at an average of 17.83 and a strike-rate of 164.61.

Lahore Qalandars Squad for PSL 9: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Haris Rauf, David Wiese, Sahibzada Farhan, Sikandar Raza, Abdullah Shafique, Zaman Khan, Mirza Tahir Baig, Mohammad Imran, Ahsan Hafeez, Dan Lawrence, Jahandad Khan, Syed Faridoun, Shai Hope, Kamran Ghulam, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Tayyab Abbas
