Islamabad United head coach Mike Hesson sees Azam Khan as a “special commodity” as the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman can absolutely tear opposition bowling attacks apart.
Azam is renowned for his power-hitting skills, which he has displayed at the domestic level and in various T20 leagues around the world.
Having worked with the 25-year-old in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Hesson admitted that he is a major asset to have and can single-handedly change the outcome of matches.
“He’s a special commodity and we saw how well he performed in the PSL last year,” he told PakPassion.
In PSL 9, Azam, who is the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, amassed 226 runs in 12 matches, which included a top score of 75, at an average of 25.11 and a strike-rate of 171.21.
Islamabad made it to the final and ended up being crowned champions after beating the Multan Sultans by two wickets.
