Multan Sultans head coach Abdul Rehman said Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan must “bat effectively” for the franchise while captaining them in the ongoing 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Since Rizwan opens the batting for the Sultans, he is expected to get the team off to good starts and lay a foundation for the middle order to build on.

The 31-year-old has done exactly that so far as he has amassed 381 runs in 11 matches, which includes four fifties, at an average of 34.63 and a strike-rate of 124.10.

Rehman now wants Rizwan to maintain his momentum going forward in PSL 9 so that the Sultans qualify for the playoffs.

“We want Rizwan to bat effectively,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Sultans reached their fourth consecutive PSL final after beating the Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets in the Qualifier on March 14.

Multan Sultans Squad for PSL 9: Mohammad Rizwan (captain), Iftikhar Ahmed, David Willey, Khushdil Shah, Usama Mir, Dawid Malan, Abbas Afridi, Reeza Hendricks, Tayyab Tahir, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Khan, Mohammad Ali, Faisal Akram, Yasir Khan, Chris Jordan, Aftab Ibrahim, Johnson Charles, Mohammad Shehzad
