Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said fast bowler Abbas Afridi is “always looking for an opportunity to get a game” as he is determined to represent his country as many times as possible.
Abbas recently made his international debut in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and showed plenty of promise as he took five wickets in three games at an average of 16.20 and an economy rate of nine.
While it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old will be utilised regularly in the future, Shaheen acknowledged that he is a fan of the youngster’s relentless hunger for game time.
“He is always looking for an opportunity to get a game,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Abbas is now playing for the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has claimed seven wickets in five matches at an average of 23.42 and an economy rate of 8.63.
As for Afridi, he is captaining the Lahore Qalandars and has snapped up nine wickets in six games at an average of 22.22 and an economy rate of 8.33.
