Ramiz Raja: “I think captaincy in T20 doesn’t matter as much, there is a given model that you know who will first and last two overs, who will bowl in that middle overs phase. I think captaincy is tested way more in Test cricket”

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja believes the T20I captaincy doesn’t matter too much and feels that Shaheen Shah Afridi doesn’t have a very hard job as “there is a given model” he will follow.
Afridi replaced Babar Azam as T20I captain after the latter stepped down from the leadership role in all three formats following the men in green’s disappointing performance in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The 23-year-old made his debut as skipper in the recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand and picked up nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.
Despite this, Pakistan still went on to lose the series 4-1.
Providing his thoughts on Afridi and the T20I captaincy, Ramiz noted that it is a much tougher job to lead Pakistan in Test cricket.
“I think captaincy in T20 doesn’t matter as much, there is a given model that you know who will first and last two overs, who will bowl in that middle overs phase. I think captaincy is tested way more in Test cricket,” he told Cricwick.
Afridi is now captaining the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has taken three wickets in three matches.
