Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar: “I would’ve played around 20 leagues in a season”

Iconic Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar said he would have participated in 20 T20 leagues in a single season if he was playing today.
With the rise of numerous T20 tournaments in various countries around the world, many players take part in at least two competitions each year, depending on whether they can obtain No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from their cricket boards.
While the number of leagues a national cricketer can feature in is usually capped, Akhtar admitted he would have looked to play in as many as possible since the tournaments offer lucrative paydays for players in their prime.
“I would’ve played around 20 leagues in a season,” he told the Hindustan Times.
Akhtar represented Pakistan in 46 Tests and took 178 wickets at an average of 25.69.
He also played 163 ODIs and claimed 247 wickets at an average of 24.97.
The Rawalpindi Express also snapped up 19 wickets in 15 T20Is at an average of 22.73.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan team haven’t been in good form as of late as they were beaten 3-0 in their Test series against Australia and 4-1 in a T20I series against New Zealand.
Many of the national players are now featuring in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which began on February 17.
