Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has defended fast bowler Haris Rauf, stating that he is the team’s “best bowler.”
Rauf has been heavily criticised as of late for conceding too many runs while bowling, even though he also takes plenty of wickets.
Afridi feels the criticism is unwarranted as the 30-year-old is doing his job of providing breakthroughs.
“Haris was hit for runs on good balls too, but he’s our best bowler and has the most wickets for Pakistan (as a pacer),” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
In the recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Rauf took seven wickets in four games at an average of 23 and an economy rate of 10.61.
He will now play for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is the team Afridi will captain.
PSL 9 will be held from February 17 to March 18 in four cities – Lahore, Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
Lahore Qalandars Squad for PSL 9: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Haris Rauf, David Wiese, Sahibzada Farhan, Sikandar Raza, Abdullah Shafique, Zaman Khan, Mirza Tahir Baig, Mohammad Imran, Ahsan Hafeez, Dan Lawrence, Jahandad Khan, Syed Faridoun, Shai Hope, Kamran Ghulam, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Tayyab Abbas
