Fawad Alam has urged the national selectors to stick with Saud Shakeel as he “is a valuable asset for Pakistan.”
Shakeel has become one of Pakistan’s go-to middle order batsman in Test cricket, but he is starting to be used in ODIs as well.
Recently, he scored 92 runs in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia at an average of 15.33. Despite this, the 28-year-old averages an impressive 60.43 in Test cricket.
As a middle order batsman himself, Fawad knows how useful it is to have specialist players who can perform in that particular position.
“This was Saud Shakeel’s first tour for a Test match in Australia. He also knows what faults he has, and he will try to cover them. He is a valuable asset for Pakistan,” he told Cricket Pakistan.
Following the Australia Tests, Pakistan played a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which they lost 4-1.
Shakeel will now play for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which starts on February 17.
