Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez lauded pace bowler Aamer Jamal for making the most of the opportunity given to him during the three-Test series against Australia.
Jamal made his debut in the first Test and proceeded to play all three matches, during which he became a household name by taking 18 wickets at an average of 20.44.
The 27-year-old didn’t just impress people with his bowling as he also had an impact with the bat, scoring 143 runs, which included a top score of 82, at an average of 28.60.
Hafeez believed that Jamal was “not being given enough chances” in the past and noted that he was “waiting for this opportunity” to prove his worth.
“Obviously before he was not being given enough chances at this level and he is one of those guys who was waiting for this opportunity. Once he got his chance, he grabbed it with both hands and I am really proud of him,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Following his outstanding performance against Australia, Jamal played in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and snapped up one wicket in two games at an average of 97 and an economy rate of 12.12.
He will now represent the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which gets underway on February 17.
