Rohit Sharma struck an unbeaten 115 and Mayank Agarwal scored 84 not out as India tormented South Africa on a rain-affected day in Visakhapatnam.
Opting to bat first, Rohit and Agarwal absolutely dominated from the get-go as they forged an unbeaten 202-run partnership, during which Rohit brought up his hundred and Agarwal his fifty.
With South Africa made to toil for 59.1 overs, it was the rain that ultimately ended their suffering.
Since the rain refused to relent, the umpires had no choice but to end play early for the day.
Rohit finished on 115, which came off 174 balls and included 12 boundaries and five sixes, while Agarwal remained undefeated on 84, which came off 183 deliveries and included 11 boundaries and two sixes.
India ended day one on 202/0 and will continue batting on Thursday at 09:20 local time, 03:50 GMT.
