Legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir believes that a rift could form between Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis.
Misbah was named Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector on Wednesday, while Waqar was appointed as the national team’s bowling coach.
However, since Waqar served as head coach from 2010 to 2011 and 2014 to 2016, Qadir feels that clashes may arise if he tries to advise Misbah.
Qadir also feels that Waqar shouldn’t have been appointed as Pakistan’s bowling coach as he has held the same position twice before – in 2006 to 2007 and 2009 to 2010, where he served as bowling and fielding coach.
“Waqar has served twice in that (head coach) capacity. But now all those powers enjoyed by him will lie with a much junior Misbah,” Qadir was quoted as saying by The Nation. “When he (Waqar) will interrupt him, a clash will arise, which will serve no good for Pakistan cricket.
“I also believe that as Waqar [has] already [been] tested as a bowling coach in the past, it makes no sense to try him once again for the same slot.”
