England managed to take three wickets before persistent rain led to a majority of the third day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s being washed out.

Starting off the day on 30/1, Australia added 30 runs to their overnight score before Cameron Bancroft was given out lbw off the bowling of debutant Jofra Archer for 13.

Usman Khawaja managed to score 36 before he was caught behind off the bowling of Chris Woakes.

Travis Head didn’t last long at the crease as he was given out lbw off the bowling of Stuart Broad for seven runs.

Seven overs after Head was dismissed, the rain came and it eventually led to stumps being called.

Steve Smith and Matthew Wade amassed an unbeaten nine-run partnership before the inclement weather brought things to an end.

Smith finished on 13, which came off 40 balls and included two boundaries, while Wade has yet to get off the mark.

Broad was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Archer and Woakes chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Australia ended day three on 80/4, which leaves them trailing by 178 runs, and will continue batting on Saturday at 11:00 local time or 10:00 GMT.
