Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik believes that left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi could steal the spotlight at the 2020 World Twenty20, just like he did during the recent World Cup.

Afridi was one of the standout performers during Pakistan’s World Cup campaign as he took 16 wickets at a superb average of 14.62.

The 19-year-old claimed figures of 6-35 off 9.1 overs in Pakistan’s 94-run win over Bangladesh, which made him the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match. He also registered the best figures by a Pakistan player in a World Cup game.

Given how well Afridi performed at the World Cup, Malik predicts that he could shine at next year’s World Twenty20 in Australia.

“I feel we are a very good T20 team right now,” he told CricTracker. “Few issues I guess could be wickets early on with the new ball. Wickets in T20 cricket are the key, so someone who can swing the ball would be ideal. Shaheen Shah Afridi was sensational during the 2019 World Cup, and I think he has the potential to do something similar for us here too.”
