Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Waqar Younis firmly believes that the senior players in the national team are trying to prolong their careers as much as possible instead of retiring.

Waqar didn’t name anyone in particular, but said instead of stepping away from the game gracefully, these senior players are intent on keeping their international careers alive.

Waqar also attributed this to the fact that no one tells these players that it’s time they hang up their boots.

“Till the last moment, our World Cup squad was not final and clear. There is a big problem that senior players try to linger on in their careers and there is no one to tell them it is time for them to retire gracefully,” Waqar told the Daily Jang as quoted by The New Indian Express.

“For the last so many years, we see the same thing. At the last moment, seniors are brought in as the authorities are scared to lose in a big tournament.”
