Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi has thanked outgoing chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq for putting his faith in him and including him in the national team.

Afridi’s comments come after Inzamam announced that he would be stepping down from the positionat the end of the month.

It also comes after he was one of Pakistan’s standout performers at the World Cup.

Afridi finished with figures of 6-35 off 9.1 overs in Pakistan’s 94-run win over Bangladesh at Lord’s.

The 19-year-old not only became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match, but he also registered the best figures by a Pakistan player in a World Cup game.

Afridi only featured in five matches for Pakistan in this World Cup, but he caught fire after a slow start and ended up taking 16 wickets at a superb average of 14.62.

“A legend bid farewell today to Pakistan cricket – A man of steel, a visionary. I could not have played for Pakistan this early if it was not for you. You handpicked me, nurtured me and patted [me on] my back when I needed it the most. Thank you,” Afridi said on Twitter
