Legendary Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir wants Sarfraz Ahmed to be retained as captain, but feels that the entire coaching staff should be sacked.

Qadir noted that Sarfraz has done a good job captaining the team and even led them to Champions Trophy glory in 2017.

He added that it wouldn’t be justified to strip Sarfraz of the captaincy solely based on the fact that Pakistan failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.

Pakistan fell agonisingly short of reaching the last four as New Zealand edged them out for the final spot since they had a better net run rate.

However, Qadir feels it would be a mistake to keep hold of the current coaching staff.

“The entire coaching staff should be removed but not Sarfraz Ahmed because he is a fighter and has done well for us in the past,” Qadir told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “He has been groomed as captain since his early playing days and there is no point in removing him. He also won the Champions Trophy for us and so he should not be removed from his role on one bad result.”
