Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi firmly believes that the national team’s “fielding was pathetic throughout the World Cup”.

Pakistan dropped numerous catches during the tournament, and in their must-win game against South Africa, they put down seven catches. However, they still managed to triumph by 49 runs.

But, it wasn’t just Pakistan’s fielding that Afridi took aim at as he felt the men in green’s batting and bowling was “sometimes average and sometimes below average”.

Pakistan failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals as New Zealand had a better net run rate than them.

However, they did conclude their World Cup campaign with a record of five wins, three losses and one match being washed out.

“Our fielding was pathetic throughout the World Cup, while the bowling and batting was sometimes average and sometimes below average,” Afridi told The Nation.
