Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has insisted that it is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to decide what to do about Sarfraz Ahmed’s future as captain.
The PCB will be holding a comprehensive review of Pakistan’s performance since head coach Mickey Arthur took over in 2016 and will be deciding whether to extend his contract, along with what to do about Sarfraz and the national selectors.
Rumours suggest that Sarfraz will be completely stripped of the captaincy or no longer lead the national team in all three formats.
However, until a final decision has been made, Azam pointed out that he will continue fulfilling his role in the team, which is to score runs and help Pakistan win.
“It is the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) responsibility and the decision to appoint a captain and to whom they consider. My job is to play cricket and be a useful part of the team,” Azam was quoted as saying by The Nation.
