Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed admitted that left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi produced one of the best spells he has ever seen in the team’s World Cup win over Bangladesh on Friday.
Afridi finished with figures of 6-35 off 9.1 overs in Pakistan’s 94-run win at Lord’s.
The 19-year-old not only became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match, but he also registered the best figures by a Pakistan player in a World Cup game.
Afridi only featured in five matches for Pakistan in this World Cup, but he caught fire after a slow start and ended up taking 16 wickets at a superb average of 14.62.
Despite Afridi’s efforts with the ball, Pakistan could not qualify for the semi-finals as they had to beat Bangladesh by over 300 runs.
As a result, New Zealand joined Australia, India and England in the last four.
“The way Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled to take six wickets today is one of the best bowling spells I have seen in a long time,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
