Imam-ul-Haq: “I couldn’t do what I was expecting from myself and that’s [the] disappointing thing for me”

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has admitted that he is disappointed with himself as he has not been able to convert his starts into big scores in the World Cup.

Imam has scored 205 runs in seven matches, which included a solitary half-century, at an average of 29.28.

Imam has got off to decent starts in a majority of the World Cup matches he has played, but he has not been able to push on and get a triple figure score.

“I couldn’t do what I was expecting from myself and that’s [the] disappointing thing for me. I couldn’t convert 40s into big scores, maybe because I was always desperate to come out of [the] 40s and made mistakes,” he was quoted as saying by The News International.

He was further quoted by The National as saying: “I think what expectations I had from myself I could not do that. I had starts but couldn’t score big.

“I am very young so I have learned a lot in this World Cup. What mistakes I have committed, I have learned from them and I am sure that will help me.”

Pakistan must now beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday as if they do, then it will come down to the net run rate between them and New Zealand on which team clinches the last semi-final spot.

Australia, India and England have already booked their spots in the last four.
