Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has admitted that he was highly impressed with left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz’s performance against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

Wahab played with a broken little finger on his right hand, which he suffered during a fielding drill the day before the match, but still managed to take two wickets and scored a crucial 15 runs.

Thanks to his efforts, Pakistan won the match by three wickets with two balls to spare and kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

Pakistan now have to beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday and hope that New Zealand beat England on Wednesday as that will secure them a spot in the last four.

“I must give credit to Wahab Riaz, who had a fractured finger and was unable to hold the bat comfortably, but he played one of the best knocks of his life and hit the Afghanistan bowlers out of the park and showed the other batsmen how to play against top guns,” Akmal told The Nation.
