Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has admitted that he was highly impressed with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz’s performance against Afghanistan on Saturday.
Afridi, who is 19, finished with figures of 4-47 off his 10 overs and broke the record for the best bowling figures by a teenager in a World Cup match.
Imad was named Man of the Match for taking two wickets and scoring a game-winning 49 not out, which came off 54 balls and included five boundaries.
Wahab, who played with a broken little finger on his right hand, claimed two wickets and scored a crucial 15 runs.
Thanks to their efforts, Pakistan won by three wickets with two balls to spare and kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.
“Shaheen (Shah) Afridi, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz put [on] a very good show against Afghanistan,” Akram was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
Pakistan now have to beat Bangladesh at Lord’s on Friday and hope that New Zealand beat England on Wednesday as that will secure them a spot in the last four.
