Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan lavished praise on Babar Azam, Haris Sohail and Shaheen Shah Afridi for their “brilliant performances” in the team’s World Cup win over New Zealand.
Azam was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 101, which came off 127 balls and included 11 boundaries.
He was well supported by Haris, who scored a 76-ball 68, which included five boundaries and two sixes.
As for Afridi, he finished with figures of 3-28 off his 10 overs, which also included three maiden overs.
Afridi dismissed Colin Munro, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham as Pakistan triumphed by six wickets at Edgbaston.
The men in green’s win not only kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive, but also handed New Zealand their first loss in the tournament.
Congratulations to our cricket team for a great comeback. Congratulations especially go to Babar, Haris and Shaheen for their brilliant performances.

“Congratulations to our cricket team for a great comeback,” Imran, who captained Pakistan to World Cup glory in 1992, said on Twitter. “Congratulations especially go to Babar, Haris and Shaheen for their brilliant performances.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.
If they beat Afghanistan, Pakistan will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.
However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
