Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood has revealed that left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir is very similar to New Zealand pace bowler Trent Boult.
Amir has been in magnificent form in the World Cup as he is the third-highest wicket-taker with 15 victims at an average of 14.60.
However, from the conclusion of the 2017 Champions Trophy to the start of the World Cup, Amir had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.
“Amir was bowling really well but his wicket column was empty, and after the Champions Trophy his economy rate throughout was the best,” Mahmood was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “He has started pitching the ball up now and he’s allowing himself to swing the ball which is crucial for us.
“He’s taking wickets now which is key, he got Hashim (Amla) out with the new ball in the last match. He has the ability and skills to take wickets.
“Shaheen (Shah Afridi) was the one bowler who was giving us wickets with the new ball when Amir wasn’t doing it.
“Amir is a wonderful bowler, Starc has more pace than him. I think Trent Boult and Mohammad Amir are similar bowlers, both have abilities and bowl well at all stages of the match, they are all top bowlers.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup game will be against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
