Pakistan batsman Haris Sohail has insisted that he was not angry about the fact that he didn’t feature in three of the national team’s World Cup matches before he stole the spotlight against South Africa on Sunday.

Haris played in Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the West Indies, where he scored eight runs, but was left out of the side for their games against England, Australia and India.

Pakistan were supposed to play Sri Lanka as well, but that match was washed out.

Having been handed another opportunity against South Africa, Haris made it count as he smashed a 59-ball 89, which included nine boundaries and three sixes.

In addition to leading Pakistan to a 49-run win and being named Man of the Match, Haris also kept the men in green’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals alive.

“It was tough (not to be part of the team),” Haris was quoted as saying by The News International. “I had performed well (in the lead-up to the World Cup), but they were looking for the right combination. But no, I wasn’t frustrated.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
