Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim believes that captain Sarfraz Ahmed is putting too much pressure on himself, which is causing him to struggle at the World Cup.

Sarfraz has scored 117 runs in five games, which includes one half-century, at an average of 29.25.

But, Qasim feels that in addition not being able to score runs, Sarfraz is also having a tough time captaining the team.

“Sarfraz’s own form is a big question mark, which is the reason why he is struggling with the willow and [has] not been able to dictate [his] terms,” Qasim told The Nation. “He needs to cool down instead of taking too much pressure and must lead from the front and give a clear message that he is the boss. If he continues to [be under] pressure, it will further affect his own performances, as well as [the] team’s progress.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup game will be against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
