Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim has admitted that the national team need to improve their fielding going forward.

Qasim’s comments come after Pakistan dropped seven catches in their World Cup clash against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.

With the men in green needing to win their last three group stage games to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, Qasim pointed out that they need to sharpen up in the field.

“I must warn Sarfraz Ahmed and his team that they won’t be able to beat any other top side by dropping more than half a dozen simple catches,” Qasim told The Nation. “South Africa’s morale was very low and they were badly struggling in the event and that was the reason why Pakistan managed to beat them, despite [their] crucial mistakes and blunders.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
