Veteran left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has lashed out at the Pakistan media for making personal attacks against the national team players.

Wahab’s comments come after Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their World Cup clash last Sunday.

India’s victory extended their unbeaten streak against Pakistan as they have now won all seven of their meetings against their arch-rivals in the World Cup.

To make matters worse, Pakistan have now only won one of the five World Cup games they have played.

As a result, the men in green’s hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals are slim at best.

Wahab insisted that while he has no issue with the media criticising the players and team over their performance, he pointed out that they begin crossing the line when they start to get personal.

“Demoralisation happens when you start [making] personal attacks that started happening in the media, you should criticise us and our performances but refrain from personal attacks,” Wahab was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “We will take criticism the right way and take it positively, but it’s best if you keep the discussion away from families.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
