Legendary Pakistan seamer Waqar Younis has called on the national team to include pace bowler Mohammad Hasnain in the playing XI.

With bowlers like Hasan Ali failing to have an impact, Waqar feels that Hasnain, who has yet to make his World Cup debut, should be given an opportunity as he has the ability to bowl at speeds up to 150kph.

Hasan has taken two wickets in four games at an average of 128. It should be noted that Pakistan have played five matches, but since their game against Sri Lanka was washed out, it is not counted in the statistics.

To make matters worse, Hasan conceded 39 runs off four overs against the West Indies, 66 runs off 10 overs against England, 67 runs off 10 overs against Australia and 84 runs off nine overs against India.

“I would now try and bring one of the youngsters back into the team. In this Pakistan bowling attack, there’s no real pace apart from Wahab,” Waqar wrote in his column for the International Cricket Council (ICC) as quoted by The News International.

“When you look around at the other teams, they have guys that can bowl 140kph, so maybe Hasnain is the way to go up front with the new ball.”

Pakistan’s next World Cup game will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
