Legendary Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas is backing left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir to shine in the national team’s World Cup clash against India on Sunday.

Pakistan will play India in Manchester, and the men in green will be looking to snap their winless streak against their arch-rivals as India have triumphed in their six World Cup meetings to date.

However, Pakistan can take confidence from the fact that they demolished India by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final in 2017.

Amir has been in red-hot form in the World Cup as he is the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 10 wickets at an average of 12.30.

This occurred after he took his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs in Pakistan’s World Cup loss to Australia.

Amir’s has enjoyed an incredible turnaround in fortune as between the conclusion of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the start of the World Cup, he had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

“Amir showed [against Australia] that when he is at his best, he can dismantle any batting line-up. I think he will be all pumped up against India. He is going to be our key man,” Abbas told The News International.
