Legendary Pakistan seamer Waqar Younis believes the national team have to recall spinner Shadab Khan for their World Cup clash against India on Sunday.
Shadab was dropped for Pakistan’s clash against Australia in Taunton on Wednesday, which the men in green lost by 41 runs.
“Shadab is the key man in this side and I think they will look to bring him back in against India. They might go for five bowlers, use four pacers and Shadab and drop someone like Shoaib Malik,” Waqar was quoted as saying by Geo.tv. “It depends a lot on what conditions are like in Manchester, up to a few hours before the game.
“Going from a defeat to playing the old rivalry against India isn’t going to be easy. India probably watched the Australia game very closely and know what needs to be done.
“Pakistan need to lift themselves up and I hope they bring their best on Sunday.”
Pakistan will play India in Manchester, and the men in green will be looking to snap their winless streak against their arch-rivals as India have triumphed in their six World Cup meetings to date.
However, Pakistan can take confidence from the fact that they demolished India by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final in 2017.
