Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim has revealed that spin bowling all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik could trouble the Australian batsmen.
With Pakistan playing Australia in Taunton on Wednesday, Qasim called on Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed to include Hafeez and Malik in the playing XI.
Hafeez took the key wicket of England captain Eoin Morgan when Pakistan beat the World Cup hosts by 14 runs, while Malik dismissed all-rounder Ben Stokes.
In addition to taking wickets, Qasim feels the duo could strangle Australia’s run-rate as they don’t play well against spin.
“We have a lethal bowling attack. Amir was looking very good in the last outing against England, while Hafeez and Shoaib Malik not only bowled well but were also amongst the wicket-takers,” Qasim told The Nation. “They took away much of the burden from the shoulders of [captain Sarfraz Ahmed] and provided him [with] options which were missing. I strongly recommend Sarfraz to use both Malik and Hafeez as the Aussies are not known to handle spinners well.”
