Afghanistan have been dealt a major blow as wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup due to a knee injury.
Shahzad retired hurt after he injured his knee during Afghanistan’s World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan.
While he played in Afghanistan’s World Cup fixtures against Australia and Sri Lanka, he aggravated the injury and has thus been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.
With Shahzad out of action, the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 has allowed Afghanistan to replace him with wicketkeeper-batsman Ikram Ali Khil.
Afghanistan’ next World Cup match will be against New Zealand in Taunton on Saturday.
