Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has revealed that the national team were told to “play with controlled aggression and fight till the last ball” prior to their World Cup clash against England.
The motivational message seemed to work as an inspired Pakistan beat England by 14 runs in Nottingham on Monday.
Pakistan’s victory over England not only helped them bounce back from their seven-wicket loss to the West Indies, but it also snapped their 11-game losing streak in ODIs.
“Before the match, our message to the boys was quite clear: play with controlled aggression and fight till the last ball,” Sarfraz wrote in his blog on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s website.
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
