Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes opener Fakhar Zaman “played like a lion” in the national team’s World Cup win over England, while batsman Babar Azam “batted with a lot of maturity”.
Zaman scored a 40-ball 36, which included six boundaries, in the match and put together an 82-run partnership with opening partner Imam-ul-Haq.
As for Azam, he struck a 66-ball 63 and forged an 88-run stand with Mohammad Hafeez, who was named Man of the Match for his 62-ball 84 and taking the wicket of England captain Eoin Morgan.
Pakistan won the match by 14 runs and snapped their 11-game losing streak in ODIs.
“The thing I like the most was Fakhar Zaman’s knock [as he] played like a lion, while Babar Azam batted with a lot of maturity and helped Hafeez establish an 88-run stand,” Latif told The Nation.
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
