Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes that batsman Babar Azam is as good as India skipper Virat Kohli.
Azam has been one of Pakistan’s most consistent batsmen this year as he scored 195 runs, which included a lone fifty, in the ODI series against South Africa at an average of 48.75.
In the five-match ODI series against England, he accumulated 277 runs in five games, which included a century and two fifties, at an average of 55.40.
He followed that up with a superb 112 in Pakistan’s World Cup warm-up against Afghanistan.
As for Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the West Indies, Azam scored 22 runs.
In that match, Pakistan were skittled out for 105 after being put in to bat first and the West Indies proceeded to win the match by seven wickets with 218 balls to spare.
Azam and Fakhar Zaman were the top scorers as they both made 22 runs, while Wahab Riaz chipped in with a quickfire 18 at the end.
Mohammad Hafeez was the only other batsman to reach double figures as he made 16.
“[Kohli’s] consistency is far better than other batsmen. Another example of that is Pakistan’s Babar Azam. In all three formats the way he is performing, Babar is like Kohli, technically very sound and always wants to score runs,” Misbah told the Gulf Times.
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against hosts England in Nottingham on Monday.
