Former Pakistan pace bowler Waqar Younis has admitted that England seamer Jofra Archer “will be licking his lips” ahead of his side’s World Cup clash with the men in green.
Pakistan’s batsman struggled against the short-pitched bowling the West Indies’ pace attack dished up in their World Cup opener.
As a result, they were bowled out for 105 and the West Indies waltzed their way to a seven-wicket win.
In England’s opening game against South Africa, which they won by 104 runs, Archer took figures of 3-27 off seven overs.
Given how quick Archer is and the fact that he utilises short balls when bowling, Younis admitted that he is going to have a field day when England clash with Pakistan in Nottingham on Monday.
“They (England) have probably never played better, and I think they have all the ingredients to go all the way and end their long wait for a World Cup. And after what happened here on Friday, you can be sure that a certain Jofra Archer will be licking his lips,” he was quoted as saying by the Deccan Chronicle.
“I have loved what I have seen of him so far. He is going to be the man that the world will remember when all is said and done at this World Cup. He has just got something about him, a bit of stardust.
“He is nippy and bowls with that extra bounce and most importantly, he takes wickets. I am sure he will leave a mark on this World Cup and probably on Pakistan on Monday.”
