Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has admitted that the national team have to dismiss England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow early on.
Wahab’s comments come ahead of Pakistan’s World Cup clash with England in Nottingham on Monday.
Both Roy and Bairstow have been in excellent form as of late, and England began their World Cup campaign with a comprehensive 104-run win over South Africa at The Oval.
As for Pakistan, they were annihilated by the West Indies as they were bundled out for 105 en route to a seven-wicket loss.
Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were the top scorers as they both made 22 runs, while Wahab Riaz chipped in with a quickfire 18 at the end.
Mohammad Hafeez was the only other batsman to reach double figures as he made 16.
Given how quickly Roy and Bairstow are capable of scoring, Wahab noted that dismissing them early will put England on the back foot.
“We know we have to take wickets up front against England with the new ball, we know what can happen if you get (Jason) Roy or (Jonny) Bairstow out early,” he was quoted as saying by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s website.
Pakistan will be looking for revenge in their match against England as they were beaten 4-0 in their five-match ODI series against the World Cup hosts.
