Wasim Akram: “They’ll have to work hard from here, they must be seen fighting till the end”

Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has not lost faith in the national team after their loss to the West Indies in their World Cup opener.

Pakistan were bundled out for 105 in the match and the West Indies proceeded to cruise to a seven-wicket win.

Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were the top scorers as they both made 22 runs, while Wahab Riaz chipped in with a quickfire 18 at the end.

Mohammad Hafeez was the only other batsman to reach double figures as he made 16.

The only bright spot for Pakistan was left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir, who had been struggling to take wickets in ODIs coming into the World Cup but finished the match with figures of 3-26 off six overs.

With Pakistan’s next match being against England in Nottingham on Monday, Akram noted that they will have to win in order to gain some momentum and get their World Cup campaign back on track.

“It’s a long tournament and the team can bounce back. I wish they do. For their own sake, for the fans’ sake. But they’ll have to work hard from here, they must be seen fighting till the end. Play like fighters and the rest is good,” Akram said on Geo’s program “Swing Ka Sultan”.
