Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram firmly believes that captain Sarfraz Ahmed is not a power hitter.
While Sarfraz is capable of scoring quick runs lower down the order, Akram insisted that he should not be classified as a big hitter.
With the men in green in desperate need of a power hitter at the World Cup, Akram feels that batsman Asif Ali is the perfect man for the job.
In the recent five-match ODI series against England, Asif scored 142 runs, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 35.50 and a strike-rate of 131.48.
Prior to that, he had a solid campaign at the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he accumulated 281 runs in 12 games for Islamabad United, which included two fifties, at an average of 35.12 and an incredible strike-rate of 182.46.
“Pakistan needs a power hitter and Asif Ali is one. I will have him in my XI. Saffy is not a power hitter, he can add quick runs but we need a power hitter and there’s no doubt that Asif deserves a place,” Akram told Geo.tv.
Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on Friday.
