A news report incorrectly said that former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya had died after being hit by a car in Toronto.
The report by CBTVN claimed that Jayasuriya sustained seriously injuries after being struck by a Honda Civic in front of a Toronto mall and died in hospital.
“The Sri Lankan Embassy in Canada has confirmed the identity of the 49 year old and said they were aware of his visit to Toronto, Canada,” the news report said.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter to ask his followers whether the report was true.
Is the news on Sanath Jayasuriya true?? I got a news update on what's app but see nothing here on Twitter!!
