Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has branded batsman Haris Sohail as the “smartest and most talented cricketer” in the national team right now.
Akhtar noted that Haris knows how to construct an innings and adjust to the conditions.
However, Akhtar admitted that the 30-year-old’s knee problems are worrying.
“Sohail is the pick of the selection from this [current] lot of Pakistani cricketers because he can construct an innings, take single and doubles, hit big hundreds and has the brain to adjust to the conditions,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
“The only drawback of Sohail is his knees. I once asked him regarding this problem and he told me that he has a genuine problem with his knees like I used to have. But, he is the smartest and most talented cricketer that fits in the middle order. If he is not able to fit in, other players need to be adjusted.”
Haris is currently representing Pakistan in the ongoing five-match ODI series against England, where he has scored 14 not out, 14 and 41 in the first three matches.
After the series against England, Pakistan will play two World Cup warm-up games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Bristol and Cardiff on May 24 and 26 respectively.
They will then begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
