Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi firmly believes that left-arm seamers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz should be in the World Cup squad.

Amir was left out of Pakistan’s World Cup team when it was announced last month, while Wahab wasn’t even included in the list of 23 probables for the tournament.

Amir’s form in ODIs has been dismal since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in June 2017 as he has taken five wickets in 15 matches at an average of 92.60.

As for Wahab, he was the third-highest wicket-taker in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he took 17 wickets in 13 games for the Peshawar Zalmi at an average of 19.88.

However, Amir still has a chance of featuring at the World Cup since Pakistan are allowed to make changes to their side without permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) until May 23.

As a result, Amir could potentially get into the team if he excels during the ongoing five-match ODI series against England.

“I have always said that Wahab Riaz for his pace and Amir for his experience should have been included in the team,” Afridi told Geo.tv.

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
