Ramiz Raja: “It is very difficult to predict how Pakistan will perform in the World Cup, but before the tournament they have a 50-50 chance”

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has admitted that the national team have a “50-50 chance” of winning the World Cup, which will begin in England and Wales on May 30.

Pakistan have not been in the best of form in ODIs this year, but they can take confidence from the fact that they won the Champions Trophy in England in 2017.

But while that may be the case, the men in green have not tasted World Cup glory since former captain and the country’s current Prime Minister Imran Khan led the team to victory back in 1992.

With Pakistan’s campaign starting on May 31, where they will play the West Indies in Nottingham, Ramiz noted that it is crucial for them to defeat the lower-ranked sides.

In addition to that, Ramiz admitted that Pakistan will have to triumph over a few of the top tier teams as well if they want to qualify for the semi-finals.

“It is very difficult to predict how Pakistan will perform in the World Cup, but before the tournament they have a 50-50 chance,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.

“It is a must for the Pakistan cricket team to win against sides ranked lower then them, [such as] Afghanistan, West Indies and Bangladesh. [They] would need to win one or two matches against the top five, because one would only make [it to] the semi-finals after winning six or seven games.”
