Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has hinted that he would have fought ex-India opener Gautam Gambhir if the umpires hadn’t intervened after their run-in with each other.

Afridi noted that the incident took place during the 2007 Asia Cup in his autobiography, Game Changer, but it actually occurred in the third ODI of Pakistan’s tour of India in November 2007.

During that match in Kanpur, which India won by 46 runs, Gambhir ran straight into Afridi when completing a run.

Afridi wrote that had the umpires not stepped in, the situation may have escalated.

“I remember the run-in with Gambhir during the 2007 Asia Cup (actually Pakistan’s tour of India), when he completed his single while running straight into me. The umpires had to finish it off or I would have. Clearly we had a frank bilateral discussion about each other’s female relatives,” he quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
