Rashid Latif: “I believe that Imam-ul-Haq [will] emerge as a different player, he doesn’t throw away his wicket and in these English conditions, we will see him playing strokes”

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes that opener Imam-ul-Haq will be the national team’s most dangerous batsman at the World Cup.

Imam has made a brilliant start to his ODI career as he has accumulated 1,153 runs in 24 matches, which includes five centuries and five fifties, at an average of 54.90.

He also holds the record as being the second-fastest player to score 1,000 ODI runs and only trails behind his opening partner, Fakhar Zaman.

Pakistan are currently in England and in their two one-day warm-up matches against Kent and Northamptonshire, Imam has scored 39 and 71 respectively.

Latif noted that Imam will be a threat during the World Cup since he is capable of wearing the opposition down.

The 50-year-old added that Imam will “emerge as a different player” after the World Cup.

“I believe that Imam-ul-Haq [will] emerge as a different player, he doesn’t throw away his wicket and in these English conditions, we will see him playing strokes,” Latif was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
