England have called up batsmen James Vince, Ben Duckett and Dawid Malan in the wake of Alex Hales’ axing from the national team.
Hales was removed from England’s preliminary World Cup squad, and from the side for the one-off ODI against Ireland on May 3, the one-off Twenty20 International against Pakistan on May 5 and the five-match ODI series against Pakistan, which will run from May 8 to 19.
Hales’ withdrawal from these squads come after he tested positive for a recreational drug and was banned for 21 days.
Duckett and Malan have been included in England’s squad for the ODI against Ireland and Twenty20 International against Pakistan, while Vince will replace Hales for the ODI series against Pakistan.
Vince is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup, where he has accumulated 402 runs in five matches for Hampshire, which includes a century and two fifties, at an average of 80.40.
Malan has scored 173 runs in five games for Middlesex, which includes a lone half-century, at an average of 34.60.
As for Duckett, he has amassed 144 runs in five games for Nottinghamshire, which includes a fifty, at an average of 28.80.
Opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the match against Ireland and Twenty20 International against Pakistan as he is recovering after suffering from back spasms.
He is set to be fit for the ODI series against Pakistan.
Pace bowler Mark Wood will also miss the ODI against Ireland and Twenty20 International against Pakistan, but it expected to play in the ODI series against Pakistan.
