Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal believes his brother Umar still has a future when it comes to international cricket.

Kamran’s comments come after Umar was overlooked for the World Cup.

Umar made his international comeback during the five-match ODI series against Australia, but only scored 150 runs at an average of 30.

Umar was recalled based on his performance for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he scored 277 runs in 12 matches, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 34.62.

However, as his performance against Australia wasn’t good enough, he was not included in the list of 23 probables selected for the World Cup.

Despite this major setback, Kamran reiterated that Umar’s international career is not over.

“Umar is a good player and has strong skills to win matches. He has his natural shorts which help him play long innings,” Kamran was quoted as saying by arysports.tv.

Kamran added that it is “unjust” Umar and Adnan, who is his other brother, are being snubbed by the national selectors.

“It is unjust with both Umar and Adnan that despite performances, they are being overlooked,” he said.

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
