Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has admitted that he was inspired by the speech former skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan gave to the World Cup squad.

Pakistan announced their World Cup squad last week, but are permitted to make changes to it without permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) until May 23.

Sarfraz noted that in addition to supporting the team, Imran also gave him a motivational pep talk since he will lead the side.

“Many thanks to Imran bhai for inviting us, he said a lot of motivational things and he supported the team and me as a captain,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “He said we should play with bravery and should try our best, no matter what the result may be.”

Pakistan’s only World Cup triumph came under the captaincy of Imran in 1992, and Sarfraz will no doubt be looking to become the second captain from the country to taste World Cup glory.

The men in green will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
