Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja was less than impressed with stand-in skipper Shoaib Malik’s comments about the ongoing ODI series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.
Following the second ODI in Sharjah, which Pakistan lost by eight wickets, Malik said: “It’s not about winning the series, it’s about testing our bench strength.”
Disappointed with Malik’s remarks, Ramiz was quoted by the Business Recorder as saying: “I couldn’t believe it, because if we don’t care about the result then why are we playing the series [in] the first place.
“And if we don’t tell our youngsters that their fifties and hundreds [are] meaningless if it doesn’t contribute [to] the team’s success, then how will we create new champions?”
Pakistan are 2-0 down in the five-match series and will be looking to reduce the deficit in the third ODI on March 27 in Abu Dhabi.
